March 2021 News

March 18, 2021

Dear Carelot Families,

Spring is just around the corner; hopefully, we don’t see any more snow for the rest of the year. The classes have been very busy learning children’s authors this month, Dr. Seuss, Eric Carle, and so many others.  Be sure to check out the classroom to see all the creative activities the children participated in this month.  On March 17th, Lucky the Leprechaun visited and each classroom, and the children loved seeing what shenanigans he did this year.

It’s that time of the year when we go outside more. So please have children dressed for the weather.  Some days they need a hat and gloves, while others a sweatshirt is sufficient.

During this time of year, we have some children transitioning from Pre-Toddler to Toddlers and Toddlers to Preschool. It’s a very busy time of year, if you have any questions about transitioning your child, feel free to talk to your teachers or Site Manager. We understand it can be kind of scary when your children start growing faster than you expect but rest assure the transition is smooth. Please take a few minutes to pop your head into your child’s new classroom and check out all the neat stuff and say hello to the new teachers.

Summer camp is now accepting enrollment for School-age children. Please sign up on the Carelot website. Space is limited so don’t wait till the last minute.  We also offer 10% military discounts, so if you know anyone looking for care, send them to Carelot!

It’s pizza time! For our March fundraiser, we will be selling Little Ceasar’s Pizza kits! Order right online and it will be delivered to your home. All proceeds will be used for educational supplies and playground equipment for the classrooms. More information was sent in an email along with Kid Reports. The top seller will receive a $50.00 tuition credit! The top-selling classroom receives a hot chocolate and donut hole party!

I hope everyone has adjusted to the time change and is ready for the longer days to be here, I know I am. As always, if you have any comments or questions, stop by the office or email me at eastlyme@carelot.net.

Sincerely,

September 2020 News

Dear Families,

Welcome to the new “School Year”! I can not wait to see all our friends in their new classrooms. The Teachers have been working really hard to get the rooms ready. We are excited to see some returning friends and also some new friends this school year.

With the new school year started, we have a few reminders to share. First, we would like to remind you to please make sure you sanitize your and your child’s hands upon entering the center and wash your child’s hands upon entering your child’s classroom. Also that breakfast time ends at 8:00 am in order for the classrooms to begin their day. Please make sure that if your child arrives after 8:00am that they have breakfast before they come in. We also ask that you call the center by 9:00am if your child will be absent or coming in late, as this helps us with planning our day. Naptime is from 1:00pm-3:00pm in the center, so be mindful if you will be coming in late. All children are expected to rest their bodies on their cots during this time.   Our full time fees are based on a 9 ½ hour day. You will be charged an additional fee for anything over 9 ½ hours, so please be sure to follow your child’s scheduled hours. If you have a schedule change you MUST notify your Site Manager. We need to schedule Teachers according to their drop off and pick up time. Example, if you normally come in at 7;30 AM to drop off your child please note that is you scheduled hours, please do not come in before your scheduled hours as we may not have a teacher to cover. This can cause chaos and confusion. All Items that enter the building must have your childs name on them, this includes bottles, bibs, cups, lunch items etc. Also, please remember that all toys should stay at home, unless it is show and share day. When children bring in toys, it can cause a distraction for the other children, along with children being upset over lost or broken toys. Lastly, as the weather begins to change, remember to send in a sweatshirt or jacket for your child to wear when we go outside and check extra clothing to be sure they are weather and size appropriate!

We also have a couple new Teachers. Ms. Emma in Preschool has been working in the Summer Camp room and has taken on the Preschool Teacher position. Also would like to introduce Ms. Shay our Kindergarten Teacher. We also have a Distant Learning Teacher that will be joining our Carelot Family, her name is Ms. Kathleen. We are super excited to have these new programs start up. Please see the attached letter for Ms. Emma and Mrs. Shay’s welcome letters.

As always, please stop by the office if you have any questions or concerns or you can email me at eastlyme@carelot.net.

Sincerely,

January 15, 2020

Dear Carelot Families,

I would like to wish a Happy New Year to all our Carelot families. I hope everyone has been sticking to their New Year’s Resolutions. I hope that everyone has a Healthy and Happy 2020.

Annual Conferences will take place, Monday, January 20, 2020, from 1:30-5:30. Please see your child’s teacher to set up a time that will work for you on this day. If you are unable to have your conference on Monday, please talk to your child’s teacher to set one up. Conferences are a great opportunity to go over what your child has been doing this school year and what the goals are for the rest of the school year.

Please be sure that you are interacting with your child’s teacher during pick up and drop off.  It is important that your child’s teacher knows that your child has entered the room in the morning.  This is an opportunity to talk with the teacher to discuss how their night was or if they are not feeling themselves.  Please allow yourself enough time in the morning, if you are in a rush please at least say hello or wave to the teacher so that the teacher is aware the child has entered the classroom.

We need your help, we are looking for all families to bring in their empty food boxes and containers. We need to replenish our Dramatic Play centers. Examples are cereal boxes, oatmeal containers, pasta boxes, coffee and creamer containers, etc.

Lastly, our staff will be participating in an amazing day of training on January 20th, they will be trained on various topics that promise to provide them with additional skills they can bring back to the classroom. As always, if you have any questions, comments or concerns feel free to call me at 860-691-1527 or email me at eastlyme@carelot.net.

The end of this school year is approaching, and summertime is here! Summertime at the center includes fun as well as learning. Don’t forget we do water play at least once a week, so please make sure your child is provided with a bathing suit, towel, water shoes, and sunscreen. All of these items must also be labeled! And don’t forget to apply sunscreen in the morning before drop off and no open toed shoes!!!

This month the children have been learning about Life on the Farm, and Animals on the Farm. The whole center was working super hard on creating Father’s Day gifts. Thank you to all the family members who enjoyed Pops with Pop’s with us for the Father’s Day Social. Preschool also had a great time on their field trip to Harkness Camp for field day and a nice picnic!

Preschool Graduation is coming up. Our Preschoolers have worked so hard this past school year. It will be sad to see them leave. They have also been preparing for their special presentation for graduation… We wish our Kindergarten students the best of luck. We hope to see you in the future for Vacation Connection, Snow Care, Summer Camp, and don’t forget our Date Night.

If you know any families that are looking for childcare, please refer them to Carelot. When you refer a family and they enroll with us, you receive a free week of tuition. We are now enrolling for our Infant, Toddler and Preschool rooms.

A few reminders please call the center by 9:30 if your child will be out for the day or arriving late. This allows us to plan our day in the classroom. April News 2019

East Lyme Center Monthly Report
April 22, 2019

Dear Carelot Families,

We have had an incredible month full of fun and exploration. Dragonflies have been working hard on writing their names. In Toddlers, they have been very busy creating masterpieces with bugs, while Pre-Toddlers have been working on learning each of their friend’s names and Infant’s have been busy holding their bottles and learning to walk.

April is Child Abuse Prevention month. During this month we encourage families to use word of mouth encouragement and establish positive self esteem and relationships. Some of these tips included having parents block out 15 minutes of their day to play one on one with their child, verbally telling your child how much you love and appreciate them and doing volunteer work for a youth or family organization.

The most exciting part of April is the Week of the Young Child. The Week of the Young Child celebrations started on Monday, April 8th, and go through Friday, April 12th. The week is sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children and is put on in order to bring attention and awareness to the importance of Early Childhood Education. The week is full of fun celebrations for the children to enjoy and learn from. Music Monday had the children up moving, grooving, and singing, as well as making their own musical instruments. Tasty Tuesday had the children learn all about healthy foods and doing a cooking project in their classroom. Work Together Wednesday was full of group games and each classroom will be working on a group project. Artsy Thursday was a day to explore different art mediums and create a classroom mural to display. On Friday, we celebrated Family Friday with an ice cream social at 3:30 pm. Thank you to all the families that attended this special event. If you would like to learn more about, National Association for the Education of Young Children, please visit their website at www.naeyc.org.

Our “Green Playground” is aching to see some beautiful spring weather and we need your help to spruce it up! We are looking for donations of plants, dirt, seeds, veggies and age appropriate gardening tools so that we can have some hands-on educational fun. Gardening is a great way to get the children outside to teach them how to take care of our planet Earth. Any and all donations are welcome!

We would also like to remind you that Provider Appreciation Day is coming up on May 11th! Our staff truly appreciate this day as it is a way for all of us to show them how much we appreciate what they do for our families. The PTO is still accepting donations to make this day possible. The PTO is also planning a surprise event!

If you have any questions or concerns regarding any of the above information, please feel free to stop by the office, e-mail me at eastlym@carelot.net or give me a call at the center.

Sincerely,

March News 2019

Dear Carelot Families,
Spring has arrived! We are so excited to hear the birds chirping, feel the warmth of the sun and watching flowers pop out of the ground! Carelot celebrated author/illustrators all month long. Reading is Fun was our theme. We highlighted Dr. Seuss, Eric Carle, Stan and Jan Berenstein, Tomie DePaola. During the month, all classrooms read stories and created art pieces, including an Eric Carle art inspired caterpillar. The children enjoyed a pancake snack inspired by Tomie DePaola’s book, Pancakes for Breakfast. There will be lots of bear related activities featured reading Berenstein Bears books.
We also had a visit from CT music and enjoyed dancing and singing to some great Music played for all! The children loved using musical instruments to help Mr. John!
We celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with a fun event. The center was visited by a mischievous leprechaun named Lucky. There was lots of excitement generated around how to catch a leprechaun. He left lots of sparkles and messes throughout the center. Don’t forget to ask the children if they caught him and the special marshmallow treats!
Our Administrative team from all our sites attended a training on DOTS- an assessment program that aligns with our CT Early Learning and Development standards that we base our curriculum on. Can’t wait to share the new assessment process coming in the 2019-2020 school year.
In the next few weeks NAEYC will be coming to visit our program to observe our classrooms and check out our curriculum items. “Accredited programs have met NAEYC’s 10 standards for high-quality early childhood education. These programs have demonstrated that they provide a safe and healthy environment for children, have teachers who are well-trained, have access to excellent teaching materials, and work with a curriculum that is appropriately challenging and developmentally sound.” Each program has a classroom portfolio showing how they provide high quality education in the classroom. This classroom portfolio is available if you would like to take a look! Just ask your teacher!
During this time of year we have some children transitioning from Pre-Toddler to Toddlers and Toddlers to Preschool. It’s a very busy time of year, if you have any questions about transitioning your child, feel free to talk to your teachers or Director. We understand it can be kind of scary when your children start growing faster than you expect but rest assure the transition is smooth. Please take a few minutes to pop your head in to your child’s new classroom and check out all the neat stuff and say hello to the new teachers.

We also offer 10% military discounts, so if you know anyone looking for care, send them to Carelot. Register by April 30th and save $10 a week!!! Spaces are limited and filling up quickly.
I hope everyone has adjusted to the time change and are ready for the longer days ahead. As always, if you have any comments or questions, stop by the office or email me at eastlyme@carelot.net.

February News 2019

February 20, 2019

Dear Carelot Families:
Happy February! The Ground Hog saw his shadow which means another six weeks of winter. Spring will officially be here March 20th, which is just around the corner. We have had a very exciting winter here at Carelot. The Infant program is working on children feeding themselves and helping our older infants to walk. The Toddler program has been very busy with creative art. Preschool has been working hard with the letter of the week and learning the concept of patterns. This is the time of year when Kindergarten registration is being held at your public schools, Check with your local school district to find out the date and time.
Each classroom had an exciting Valentine’s Day Party on February 14th. Thank you to all the families that signed up and participated with this very special event. The Carelot PTO is currently holding their spring fundraiser, Little Ceasars. All proceeds go directly to the classrooms to support wish lists and programming. Please help support our teachers by participating in this delicious fundraiser. Orders will be delivered the first week of April. Don’t miss some great items to order!
Thank you to all the families that donated their real pantry items. These items get used in our classrooms dramatic play. This is part of multicultural and early literacy that we incorporate on a daily basis.
With the months passing by so quickly, we ask that you take a moment and send a quick email to eastlyme@carelot.net about why you chose Carelot, why you stay with Carelot and a little bragging about the Teachers your child/children are with on a daily basis. We would like to make a bragging board for Staff Appreciation in May and it would be really helpful to add letters from their parents of how wonderful they are.
If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me either by telephone 860-691-1527, email eastlyme@carelot.net or stop by the office any time.

Monthly Report- December 2018

Dear Carelot Families,

December has been an exciting and busy month. The children have been learning about Polar Animals and what hibernation is and Winter Weather and sequencing. The next couple of weeks they will be learning about each other’s holiday traditions and Holidays Around the World. They will finish the holiday season by ringing in the New Year with Music, Music Everywhere. The Preschool class had an awesome fieldtrip to the Trolley Museum and met Santa. Thank you to the chaperones that were able to attend the fieldtrip. Thank you to all the families who so generously donated items from our giving tree. It will be greatly appreciated by the families. December 18th is our Annual Family Night. We usually have an amazing turn out. This is such a great way to interact with your child in their school and to mingle with the other families. January is time for our mid-school year family conferences, this is a way for Teachers and Parents/Guardians to connect and discuss goals and accomplishments with their child. Conferences are for ALL children enrolled in the center. Keep a look out for papers your child’s teacher will be sending home to learn more!

Here’s is a cool Holiday recipe we like to make in our family, it keeps the kids busy during the holiday season..
CORNSTARCH HOLIDAY DOUGH
The recipe for cornstarch dough is simple. You may already have what you need in the kitchen.
Cornstarch: 1/2 Cup
Dish Soap: 1/3 Cup
Water: 1 Tablespoon
Green Food Coloring and glitter

With the cold weather here, I feel it is important to remind all parents that outdoor play is a part of our everyday curriculum. It is important for the children to get outside and move around every day, this includes days when there is snow on the ground. Please make sure you are bringing in appropriate outdoor attire including hats, mittens, boots and snow pants. If you would like to leave a set here at the center to avoid forgetting, please feel free to do so; please label all items that you send in. I would also suggest putting your child’s hat and gloves in the sleeve of the jacket when you take their coat off in the morning, this will prevent any misplacing of items.

Have a safe, happy and healthy holiday! As always if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to stop by the office.

Thank you,

Sokie Soriano, Site Manager

East Lyme’s October 2018 News Report

Happy Fall! This is such a great time of year to take your children for a walk and discuss the trees changing colors. Check out the changes in the season and spend some great family time exploring!

I have a few reminders for this month. I want to remind you that Flu shots need to be done by December 31st, 2018 for each child that attends a child care center. This is a state requirement, when your child has received their flu shot please hand in to the office so we have record of it. Another reminder is to please shut the door behind you when entering the building. This allows everyone to use the attendance tracker and monitor who is entering the building.

Preschool had an amazing time at Scott’s Orchard, they were super excited about taking a hayride and picking their own apple from the tree. They also were able to pick their own gourd or mini pumpkin from the field. Thank you to all the parents that were able to chaperone! What a great fieldtrip! And a huge Thank You to the parents who sent me pictures from the trip.

I want to thank all the parents who attended the back to school night with their children. This was a great night for the children to show off their classroom and do a cool art/craft with their parents! It is also a great way for teachers to talk with parents about the day and what it entails and meet other families in your child’s class.
We have some great activities planned for the rest of this month. Homemade apple sauce Oct 19th, Date Night Oct 20th, Trick or treating in the building is Oct. 31st and our Annual One Stop Shopping Craft and Vendor Show is November 4th at the East Lyme High School from 10 am- 3 pm.

As always if you have any comments, questions or concerns please stop by my office or email me at eastlyme@carelot.net
