News from Brooklyn – December 2018

“Well, in Whoville they say – that the Grinch’s heart grew three sizes that day. And then – the true meaning of Christmas came through, and the Grinch found the strength of ten Grinches, plus two”!
by Dr. Seuss

Dear Families,

As I approach the end-of-year, this quote holds a great deal of meaning to me. No, I’m not a Grinch, it is that my heart does grow three more sizes everyday as Brooklyn’s Carelot’s Site Manager. It is the children and staff here that make my heart grow with such warmth. This program is very special, your children are special. I’m proud to be part of your child’s care and early education. Here are some personal December thoughts with you.
This time of year, music filters through the hallways from the classrooms with joyous children and teachers singing. There’s has been dancing; image seeing a giant snowflake dancing by you and says…” I hope I don’t melt.” Priceless! And your heart grows a little more.
The children’s artwork makes me smile, the “mistletoes” hung up in the infant room are so cute and a precious keepsake. The toddlers pure joy in participating in art, with paint from head to toes, touches my soul. Outside with the toddlers or preschoolers I always play a running game, catch Ms. Annie. I love seeing those little legs moving as fast as they can, giggling and smiling…..and my heart is filled with delight.

Just few thoughts on the teaching staff. In the infant room, it is not unusual to see Ms. Vanessa and Ms. Alli on the floor…” tummy time learning. Malorie, Ms. Carissa and Ms. Gina are wonderful, kind educators. Circle time with toddlers is great. Can’t wait to hear them sing the good morning song to me; a warm and wonderful experience. Preschool’s Ms. Amanda is a loving, determined teacher. She is persistence. She pushes through, helping your child learn to their full potential. She understands how individual and unique each child is in her class. Every teacher and staff member are dedicated to providing the best of childcare with a hands a on approach to learn…with lots of love and respect too.

I conclude with my letter with a thank you to all our families, parents/guardians. All our Giving Tree gift tags were taken, purchased and returned gift wrapped. Thank you for your generosity and kindness. Three deserving families will have a happier holiday this year. Thank you for the daily greetings, smiles and talks. You are a big part of why I love coming into work each and every day.

May there be Peace on Earth and all the world’s children have a restful nights.
Ms. Annie Aalto-Harvey
Site Manager
