March 2021

Dear Families,

I’m sure we are all ready for Spring to come! I know I am! With Spring just around the corner, we have some exciting events coming up. Be sure to check your child’s classroom for a sign-up sheet to our upcoming St. Patrick’s Day party on March 17th.  Wear green! Also, Provider Appreciation is also approaching, please watch for our sign-up form soon to help show the staff how appreciated they mean to your child and your family.

We have had a fun month so far with all of the activities planned in our calendar of events! All the children enjoyed trying to find Lucky the Leprechaun and see all his shenanigans throughout the center. Infants have been very busy working on their milestones. I love peeking in the classroom and seeing the infants sitting up, crawling, and standing. Pre-toddlers have been working hard on using words and sign language. Toddlers have been working on name and letter recognition. Preschool has enjoyed learning about the letter of the week. It has been very busy here at Carelot.

Our literacy unit this month has been very exciting!   The children have learned about different authors, stories, and the components of a book.

It’s pizza time! For our March fundraiser, we will be selling Little Ceasar’s Pizza kits! Order right online and it will be delivered to your home. All proceeds will be used for educational supplies and playground equipment for the classrooms. More information was sent in an email along with Kid Reports. The top seller will receive a $50.00 tuition credit! The top-selling classroom receives a hot chocolate and donut hole party!

As always, please stop by the office if you have any questions or concerns or you can email me at Waterford@carelot.net.

Sincerely,

Dear Carelot Families,

Happy March!  Believe it or not, spring is right around the corner!  Don’t forget that no matter what season, going outside is part of our curriculum.  Please keep an eye out for the weather, and make sure you are sending your child in with the appropriate outside attire.  Depending on the days lately, that could mean boots, hats, and mittens, or just a sweatshirt!  Also, don’t forget that the children love any “new” donated toys, especially for outside.  If you have an overabundance of sand shovels, sidewalk chalk, bubbles, balls, or outdoor games, or maybe you have an old bike and cozy coupe that your child has outgrown, feel free to donate them to the center.

This month we had tons of fun learning about different authors of classic children’s books! We learned about Dr. Seuss and Eric Carl and will end the month learning about Laura Numeroff, Margaret Weiss Brown and Beatrix Potter.

Kindergarten had fun learning about both Dr. Seuss and Eric Carle this week! We began reading Green Eggs and Ham, independently and learned the life cycle of a butterfly, along with doing some fun writing prompts!

We are now enrolling for summer camp!! Please go online to register your child for summer camp, to secure a spot if you plan on having them attend this summer. Spots are limited!

If you have any questions or concerns regarding any of the above information, please feel free to speak to me.  You can reach me in the office, by emailing me at killingly@carelot.net, or by calling us at the center.

Sincerely,

Tasha Schapp, Killingly Site Manager

Dear Carelot Families,

Spring is just around the corner; hopefully, we don’t see any more snow for the rest of the year. The classes have been very busy learning children’s authors this month, Dr. Seuss, Eric Carle, and so many others.  Be sure to check out the classroom to see all the creative activities the children participated in this month.  On March 17th, Lucky the Leprechaun visited and each classroom, and the children loved seeing what shenanigans he did this year.

It’s that time of the year when we go outside more. So please have children dressed for the weather.  Some days they need a hat and gloves, while others a sweatshirt is sufficient.

During this time of year, we have some children transitioning from Pre-Toddler to Toddlers and Toddlers to Preschool. It’s a very busy time of year, if you have any questions about transitioning your child, feel free to talk to your teachers or Site Manager. We understand it can be kind of scary when your children start growing faster than you expect but rest assure the transition is smooth. Please take a few minutes to pop your head into your child’s new classroom and check out all the neat stuff and say hello to the new teachers.

Summer camp is now accepting enrollment for School-age children. Please sign up on the Carelot website. Space is limited so don’t wait till the last minute.  We also offer 10% military discounts, so if you know anyone looking for care, send them to Carelot!

I hope everyone has adjusted to the time change and is ready for the longer days to be here, I know I am. As always, if you have any comments or questions, stop by the office or email me at eastlyme@carelot.net.

Sincerely,

“The rooster knew what he had to do. He turned around and went back home again. He enjoyed a good meal of gain and sat on his very own perch. After a while, he went to sleep and had a wonderful happy dream—all about a trip around the world”. Eric Carle

Dear Families:

Brooklyn Carelot celebrates author/illustrators all month long. Reading is Fun is our theme. We highlight Dr. Seuss, Eric Carle, Laura Numeroff, Margaret Wise Brown, and Beatrix Potter.  During the month, all classrooms read stories and created artist-inspired art pieces, including giant caterpillars, symmetrical butterflies, cookies, donuts, muffins, and lots of bunnies!

We celebrate St. Patrick’s Day this week with a fun event. The center is visited by a mischievous leprechaun named Lucky.  There was lots of excitement generated around how to catch a leprechaun with all classrooms making a trap. Don’t forget to ask your child if they caught him and received gold.

Every classroom celebrates the book If You Give a Pig a Party by Laura Numeroff, with pig-inspired activities. Our toddlers will be playing in individual mud bins, our infants will be playing with pink whip topping, preschoolers will be eating pink pancakes and the kindergarten class will make and wear pig masks while eating bacon.

September 2020 News

Dear Families,

Welcome to the new “School Year”! I can not wait to see all our friends in their new classrooms. The Teachers have been working really hard to get the rooms ready. We are excited to see some returning friends and also some new friends this school year.

With the new school year started, we have a few reminders to share. First, we would like to remind you to please make sure you sanitize your and your child’s hands upon entering the center and wash your child’s hands upon entering your child’s classroom. Also that breakfast time ends at 8:00 am in order for the classrooms to begin their day. Please make sure that if your child arrives after 8:00am that they have breakfast before they come in. We also ask that you call the center by 9:00am if your child will be absent or coming in late, as this helps us with planning our day. Naptime is from 1:00pm-3:00pm in the center, so be mindful if you will be coming in late. All children are expected to rest their bodies on their cots during this time.   Our full time fees are based on a 9 ½ hour day. You will be charged an additional fee for anything over 9 ½ hours, so please be sure to follow your child’s scheduled hours. If you have a schedule change you MUST notify your Site Manager. We need to schedule Teachers according to their drop off and pick up time. Example, if you normally come in at 7;30 AM to drop off your child please note that is you scheduled hours, please do not come in before your scheduled hours as we may not have a teacher to cover. This can cause chaos and confusion. All Items that enter the building must have your childs name on them, this includes bottles, bibs, cups, lunch items etc. Also, please remember that all toys should stay at home, unless it is show and share day. When children bring in toys, it can cause a distraction for the other children, along with children being upset over lost or broken toys. Lastly, as the weather begins to change, remember to send in a sweatshirt or jacket for your child to wear when we go outside and check extra clothing to be sure they are weather and size appropriate!

We also have a couple new Teachers. Ms. Emma in Preschool has been working in the Summer Camp room and has taken on the Preschool Teacher position. Also would like to introduce Ms. Shay our Kindergarten Teacher. We also have a Distant Learning Teacher that will be joining our Carelot Family, her name is Ms. Kathleen. We are super excited to have these new programs start up. Please see the attached letter for Ms. Emma and Mrs. Shay’s welcome letters.

As always, please stop by the office if you have any questions or concerns or you can email me at eastlyme@carelot.net.

Sincerely,

Sokie Soriano, Site Manager
